Danny McBride Reveals He’s Completed the Script for Paramount’s New G.I. Joe Movie

In what should be exciting news for the G.I.Joe community, actor, comedian, producer, and screenwriter Danny McBride has confirmed that he’s wrapped up writing the screenplay for Paramount’s upcoming live-action G.I. Joe film. McBride shared the update during an appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, giving fans their first real details about the project’s direction.Here’s the scoop –

According to McBride, the upcoming G.I. Joe movie will be a high-stakes, suspense-driven action film centered on Duke and a team of fellow Joes. The story is set in Springfield, a town under the control of the terrorist organization Cobra, a nod to a storyline pulled directly from the original Marvel Comics G.I. Joe series, signaling a deeper connection to the franchise’s comic book roots.

McBride also teased that several “interesting” names are currently in talks to join the cast, though he stopped short of revealing specifics. As for timing, he indicated the production team is targeting a start date for filming sometime next year.

Interestingly, McBride revealed that his original pitch wasn’t for a mainline G.I. Joe film at all, he initially wanted to develop a movie centered on the Dreadnoks, the villainous biker gang from the franchise. However, Paramount executives pushed back, insisting that a proper G.I. Joe movie needed to come first in order to relaunch the franchise before branching into spin-off territory.

I’m optimistic, as I love Danny’s work, and let’s be serious – It can’t get much worse than the Snake Eyes movie, amirite?
