As part of their G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Set kickstarter campaign update, the fine folks at Skybound Entertainment have shared a new segment called “Special Ops Archives”!
The first piece sits down with Mr. Alex Antone, Series editor for a look back to where it all started, G.I.Joe #1! Check it out –
For this installment of Special Ops Archives, we’ll dive deep into where it all started: issue #1! G.I. JOE ARAH Series editor Alex Antone looks back on that first issue of the series!
What’s the first thing you think of when you think of issue #1?
Alex: It’s the one that started it all!
What remains so relevant about this issue in today’s G.I. Joe lore?
Alex: This comic introduced characters that are still as relevant and iconic as ever over 40 years later! Joes like Snake-Eyes, Hawk, Scarlett, Stalker and Cobras like Baroness and the infamous Cobra Commander!
Anything else you’d like to share about this issue?
Alex: Fun fact, Skybound re-released a “Larry Hama Cut” special edition of this comic book in the fall of last year, which fixed a line that the original editor changed at the last minute without Larry’s approval. Over 40 years later, the mistake has finally been rectified and this is the version that will be printed inside each Skybound compendium. Yo Joe!
I really love all that Skybound is doing with each update, as each segment has really been fun! Stay tuned, I’ll be sure to bring you more as they’re released!
