Well friends, in news that really isn’t a surprise to many, the Cobra Mothership from Super7 failed to fund. I’ll share my thoughts below, but in the meanwhile, here’s the official word from Super7:

Thank you to all the Cobra loyalists who supported our G.I. Joe Mothership campaign! Unfortunately, it did not reach its minimum funding goal and will not be moving forward into production. But, fear not, Joe fans, Super7 has more new and exciting projects with G.I. Joe coming soon! Yo Joe! #Super7
Now, I could share many reasons why I believe this didn’t fund – The overall cost (product + shipping). the size, the time of year being offered…but truth of the matter is, it’s easily any of the three in this economy. I hope that this setback doesn’t deter Super7 from offering future large items, especially with o-ring G.I.Joe offerings coming back under the Super7 banner next year.
Did you get in on the Mothership? What were your thoughts on the campaign overall?

I was all for it, because it was something in The Lord’s Scale! I don’t have the room for it, so selfishly speaking it was a good thing. I’m not so sure it’s a good thing for the community though. Will this discourage further 1/18 scale projects? I hope not. I’m hoping this isn’t a gut punch to the new o-rings either.
Same here, my friend. I was actually in, but then I clapped out as I couldn’t justify (what I felt was) the high shipping cost. Ex: Tax & shipping raised that $500 purchase to almost $800.
That said, I’m confident that we’ll still get o-ring, I just hope that, to your point, the failure of the mothership doesn’t hang over any other possible drops. I’d love other deep cuts like water robots, etc.
