Energon Universe from Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics

It’s been not much of a secret that Skybound Entertainment picked up both the G.I.Joe and Transformers comic licenses from IDW.

Well, thanks to JR Bryans, we have our first look at a promotional poster for the all new “Energon Universe” that combines both the G.I.Joe and Transformers franchises in to one universe!

The poster notes that the “Energon Universe Starts Here”, while noting that Void Rivals #1 is available now!

“Discover Robert Kirkman and Skybound’s all-new Transformers and G.I.Joe shared universe today!”

The footer of the poster notes upcoming titles, including:

Tranformers #1 – On sale October 2023
Duke #1 – On sale December 2023
Cobra Commander #1 – On sale January 2024

I’ll for sure check it out, but don’t know if I’m excited or not? Time will tell, but I will definitely be on the hunt for Void Rivals #1! What say you? Are you excited about this new universe, or will you be skipping it all together?

Wait & see, I guess. Not sure if putting GI Joe and TF in the same universe is such a smart idea. It has been tried before (last time by IDW), with poor results. The problem is that in a universe with TF running around, wrecking havoc, Joes and Cobra’s seem rather meaningless and under powered (it’s also the feeling I got in the Michael Bay movies, like what was the point of all those military dudes running around. Although I’ve to admit those movies actually felt more like GI Joe than the actual GI Joe movies afterwards). Also, I hope this iteration will present us with a more military feeling for the Joes and a serious Cobra organization. I myself would rather have a continuation of the DDP continuity than Larry Hama continuing with in my humble opinion boring stories, where all Joes are supermen, Cobra is a bunch of incompetents, everything leads to more ninjas (God noooooooo!) and every page drips with liberal propaganda. :s

I too am taking a wait and see approach. As you noted, this has been tried before and not very successfully at that.
