Destro’s Journal – Arctic Assault H.I.S.S. Plans Complete

The Arctic Assault H.I.S.S. (High Speed Sentry) and Arctic Assault H.I.S.S. Driver is ready and simply awaits open preorder numbers to commence production for deployment at the end of Fall 2026.

A Wintry Mix

Concurrent with my analysis of the capabilities of the GI. Joe SnowC.A.T. (Combat All-Terrain) Vehicle and the somewhat shocking success of their HasLab project, Cobra Commander made a rather flippant declaration amidst one of his usual tirades. To combat the Joe’s impending advances in the arctic arms race, he suggested that I “slap some white paint” on my technological terror, the HIgh-Speed Sentry.

As though that would suffice to adequately prepare them for the rigors of sub-zero temperature combat. Ludicrous. I do not suffer fools lightly and fools who attempt to skirt the precisions required of weapons design never. Even under such an accelerated manufacture schedule, I, Destro, have successfully reconfigured my creation, with some modest modifications, and am ready to unleash it upon the world.

A New Weapon for a New Theater of Operation

Retrofitting the Sentry for such a frigid clime necessitated the removal of the electronic lighting features. Similarly, the Diablo cannons were ill-suited for this particular incarnation. I have, however, made several significant technological enhancements and modifications to counter the Joe’s meager advancements in their own arsenal. The hexagonal camouflage adds additional armor plating to the hull.

Of all things the measure is man

Lean and sleek, the Arctic Assault H.I.S.S. measures 19.6″ (50 cm) long and stands 12.6.” (32 cm) tall. The single cockpit seat affords a narrower silhouette than the Joe’s SnowC.A.T. while still providing ample rear cargo storage and troop transport at a mere 9″ (22.9 cm) wide.

The flip-down boarding ladder ascends to the polarized gull-wing canopy which with independent right and left sides that lift from center hinges allowing the Driver to enter from either side of the H.I.S.S…

The interior cockpit

The interior cockpit features detailed dashboard displays, articulated joystick and throttle controls, a 5-point harness adorned with Cobra logo.

the exterior storage rack and the bedroll

Unique to this fleet of Arctic Assault H.I.S.S vehicles are the exterior storage rack and the bedroll that flank either side of the hull.

HISS-CS22 propulsion unit

Behind the cockpit sits the M.A.R.S.-developed HISS-CS22 propulsion unit detail beneath a removable cover. It connects to side exhaust port details. Its flawless design needed no modification or improvements.

Snow Sabre air rockets and the Twin Hissintegrator Cannons

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!

I have retained the Twin Hissintegrator Cannons of the original design but modified the armaments of the 360-degree rotating turret to dual flanking Hissruptor LZ-6 Laser Cannons. To match the concussive force of the SnowC.A.T.’s “Shockwave” missiles I’ve replaced the Diablo Cannons with Snow Sabre ground to air rockets whose turret is likewise capable of rotating and pivoting.

Rear personnel platform

he rear personnel platform provides standing room for additional troops who can be posed holding the functional handrails.

retractable tow hitch

Below the platform is a retractable tow hitch on the rear of the vehicle.

manually moving treads

Driving O’er the Fields

Rotating sprockets and functioning wheels spin as you manually move the treads forward or backward allowing the vehicle to traverse the most difficult terrain with practiced ease.

The center of the personnel platform flips up allowing the rear cargo door to drop. That reveals troop transport cargo space.

Inside the tank

Inside is a jump seat and a tool/weapon accessory storage rack ideal for storing the axes and shovel accessories that come with each vehicle. 2 gas cannisters can stow inside or atop the exterior rack.

Arctic Assault H.I.S.S. Driver in the cockpit

What H.I.S.S. would be complete without its Driver?

Arctic Assault H.I.S.S. Drivers are given concentrated training in the operation of the vehicle; cold-weather combat and survival; as well as airborne operations should they or their vehicle need to be airdropped into remote locations. Each Driver is equipped with their standard issue accessories

Now, you all have heard me share a bit of a whine about this particular subject in the past, so I’ll keep it short & sweet here –

I’m glad that this vehicle is up for grabs outside of a HasLab. Let the market speak. Since the molds are already made, it’s easier to stick to a “made to order” schema, as c’mon, Hasbro undoubtedly has a minimum order amount to hit, so I’m sure they’ll reach that with no issue.

That aside, I’m of the mindset that we, the consumer, helped fund those molds through the HasLab H.I.S.S. campaign. As such, this vehicle should be a bit cheaper, no? $149.99 perhaps? I dunno. I’m sure I’m just being cheap. I have no issue with previous HasLabs being used to offer repaints as Lord knows I want a Tiger Force Tiger Fly and Tiger Rat, but I feel like $200 is a bit much, considering that the HasLab release was only $100 more and included so much more.

What say you? How many are you adding to your collection? Or are you skipping it all together? I’ll be passing this one, as I have the 25th anniversary version and am happy with that one.

For those of you reading this, sound off below, as I’d love to hear your take!
