After a brief Hiatus, I’m back with news of (4) new render reveals that dropped today courtesy of select outlets including SecretGalaxy, the AIC Podcast and BBTS.
What’s interesting to note is that it appears that Hasbro is still using the same character footprint that was available on the G.I.Joe website before it was unceremoniously taken down.
Included in the render drop are –
Sci-Fi

Sci-Fi stays true to his original design, while incorporating elements from his operation: blackout profile. I love this character/figure, so it’s great to see him finally. The different face shields are neat and Battle Armor Cobra Commander’s lower legs are a good fit here.
Wet-Suit

As with Sci-Fi, Wet-Suit stays true to his original look, although it looks like they’ve flipped his water wing around. This is another ’86 offering that is highly anticipated.
Desert Scorpion & SKRP10N

Desert Scorpion looks awesome, capturing both his classic ARAH look alongside his modern era counterpart. I personally would’ve preferred the missile system on his backpack, but still good looking nonetheless. I’m sure we’ll learn that the Scorpion is mutated or something along those lines, but I think something a bit more mechanical would’ve been a good fit here.
Grim Viper

Your mileage may vary; To me, this was a wasted slot. Now, don’t get me wrong, I get that parts need to be reused…but why “Grim Viper”? Couldn’t it have been a homage to the Cobra Jungle Strike Twin Battle Gun? Or maybe it could’ve been repainted as Skullbuster, giving us the leader of the squad? Heck, I myself would’ve loved a Body Bag offering, finally giving us the Plague.
What are your thoughts on these 4? I’m excited for Sci-Fi and Wet-Suit. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for SDCC.
Now, speaking of SDCC, I can’t promise that I’ll be covering the event in real time, but since there is a G.I.Joe Panel, I may dust off the cobwebs and get back to work. Hope to see you around!
