G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero Field Guides by 3DJOES Kickstarter Campaign is LIVE

Heads up! The Kickstarter campaign for the G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero Field Guides by 3DJOES is now LIVE! Read on for a direct link and campaign details –

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/3djoes/3djoes-field-guides
The 3DJOES G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero Field Guides will be an essential tool for the on-the-go A Real American Hero collector. Each book will be roughly 500 pages, and will measure in at 4″ x 5″. These pocket-sized guides will be small enough to take hunting with you at conventions, flea markets, estate sales, and yard sales – while still showing you the figures and accessories in crystal-clear life-size photos, with enough detail for you to make an educated purchase!

With your help, we’ll produce three volumes through this Kickstarter!

VOLUME 1: LOOSE FIGURES

Volume 1 will present all 483 G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero (1982-1994) figures in crystal clear life-sized photographs, and will feature a checklist for every figure and each of their accessories. This volume is your pocket-sized ARAH figure collection.

VOLUME 2: FILE CARDS

Volume 2 will present all 483 G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero (1982-1994) file cards at 90% of life-size in crystal-clear restored scans. This volume is your pocket-sized G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero Rolodex.

VOLUME 3: MINT-ON-CARD FIGURES

Volume 3 will present  all 359 G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero (1982-1994) mint on card (MOC) figures* at 54% of life-size, in crystal-clear restored hybrid scans and photos. This volume is your pocket-sized G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero Yearbook. (*counting all multi-pack figures as one)

As a lifelong collector that started out carrying a handwritten note card checklist and the cross-sale catalogs back in the 1980s, Desimone’s guides in the 1990s, and Bellomo’s hardcover in the 2000s, this is the pocket-sized collecting guide I’ve always wanted: Something you can carry with you to flea markets, estate sales, and conventions and skim quickly to find what you’re missing. These pocket-sized guides will be your secret weapon in the hunt for elusive figures and accessories, file cards, and carded figures!

WHO IS BEHIND THIS PROJECT?

I’m Robert Carson Mataxis. My friends call me Carson. I create video and animation products for a living, and over the years I’ve picked up a couple Emmys for editing and animation. I’m the CCO of Locomotion Media Group, the curator of 3DJoes.com, and the CO of Operation: Recall. I’m an 8 time Kickstarter Alumni: funding posters, books, and action figures via Kickstarter. You all have helped me form teams and accomplish some truly amazing creative work over the years, and I’m eternally grateful for that.

I’m excited to announce that I’ve partnered with Wayne Scheiner of Retro Toy Quest for this project! This will drastically speed up the development of Volume 1 (volumes 2 and 3 are a much lighter lift, as we’ve already finished shooting, scanning, and editing those assets in the process of creating The Art of G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero Omnibus Hardcover).

About five years ago I set out to shoot, edit, and upload accessory image galleries for each figure on 3DJoes. I ended up shooting about half of the line – but I really hit a wall on editing. I only made it through a few years. Here’s a sample, from the 3DJoes Baroness page

Now I’m going to finish shooting all 483 G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero (1982-1994) action figures (and their accessories) and Wayne is going to edit these crystal-clear, life-sized photographs!

So, let’s get this project funded to see this partnership reach fruition!

With your help, we’ll produce all three volumes, and if the series is a hit, we plan to keep rolling right into international figures in partnership with our friends from Joe DeclassifiedWant a sneak peek at what that might look like? Check out this tour of the Joe Declassified head honcho’s unparalleled collection.

Thank you ALL for supporting our archival efforts over the years. It’s been an honor to find so many like-minded fans that want to help us document the greatest toy line ever made. Yo Joe!

– R. Carson Mataxis

Go get your pledge in and let’s get this funded quickly, as I’d love to see what stretch goals Carson has up his sleeve!
