Legend has it that back in 1985, before Hasbro settled on Starduster as their mail away figure, there was at least one other design on the table – that being Chef. This figure uses most of the same parts as Starduster (with a different head, of course). I’ve always loved the idea of “what could have been,” so the idea of going back in time (in my head) and creating a carded Chef figure (as if he’d been released in 1986-87ish) has long been on my work table.

I want to thank Level 7 Toys for the molding and casting on this project and also a shout out to Yang-Li Kong who I commissioned for the illustration of Chef used on the cardback (based on the original concept image – which I then touched up with Photoshop).
