As it’s #maraudersmonday, what better time to check out a history of 1989? Ken of Toy Kennections recently dropped a deep dive into the G.I. Joe A Real American Hero Universe, with a look at the 1989 lineup. Check it out –
This year of 3.75″ o-ring G.I. Joe ARAH adds some more best sub-teams: Sgt. Slaughter’s Marauders, and others debut here. Also some expansion to Destro’s Iron Grenadiers and Night Force. Some big vehicles too like the Thunderclap and Condor Z25. Plus a new Hiss 2 debuts.
This year also introduced us to some greats like Gnawgahyde, and even new versions of Snake Eyes, Stalker, Rock & Roll, and more.
Also more army builders like the Night Viper, Alley Viper and others.

I lived overseas in 1989, so G.I.Joe was the one thing that I had that made me feel like I was home. I remember walking into a store named the “New York Department Store” (go figure) and seeing the G.I.Joe Raider and Cobra Python Patrol offerings on the shelves. Needless to say, I begged for everything, but walked out with a Python ASP that day. Later my Mom would surprise me with the Raider and H.I.S.S. II! Talk about backyard adventures!
Thanks go to Ken of Toy Kennections for the great work as always!
