As part of their G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Set kickstarter campaign update, the fine folks at Skybound Entertainment have shared a new segment called “Special Ops Archives”!

The next segment in the series has us sit down with Mr. Alex Antone, the current ARAH series editor, for a look back at the legendary issue #109, casualties of war! Check it out –

What’s the first thing you think of when you think of issue #109?

Alex: It’s the issue where everyone dies! (Ok, not everyone.)

Known informally amongst some G.I. Joe fans as “The Death Issue,” this issue introduces the infamous Saw Viper who proceeds to kill off beloved Joes Doc, Crankcase, Heavy-Metal, Thunder, Breaker, Crazylegs and Quick-Kick!

What is the first and foremost part of this issue that makes it such an enduring part of the series?

Alex: This issue is a testament to how seriously Larry Hama treated to the combat in these books. Plus, it gave us one of the most memorable villains in G.I. Joe history.

Any other fun facts?

Alex: With a cover by the incredible Lee Weeks, how could you NOT pick this up?

Thanks, Alex! What timing, the next stretch goal unlock is ANOTHER set of cards by none other than LEE WEEKS!

Help us get there by sharing this campaign with anyone in your life that wants to pledge with G.I Joe… or Cobra! See you tomorrow!

YO JOE!

These segments are awesome and I hope that Skybound keeps on serving them up, as I’ll keep on sharing them as they do!
