1988 G.I.Joe Tiger Force Toy Commercial

It’s #tigerforcefriday, so why not go old school and live our best lives with a viewing of the oh-so-awesome G.I.Joe Tiger Force Toy Commercial, courtesy of Retropolis! Check it out –

I get that Tiger Force, or sub-teams in general, are not everyone’s cup of tea. Sure, they’re just repaints. To me, they’re so much more. I love the idea of an elite force within an elite force taking on missions like Tiger Force did/Does. I also love the idea of both sides of the war using captured vehicles in their own motorpool.

For sake of clarity, highlighted in the video are:

G.I.Joe Tiger Force Figures

  • Bazooka
  • Duke
  • Dusty
  • Flint
  • Lifeline
  • Roadblock
  • Tripwire

G.I.Joe Tiger Force Vehicles

  • Tiger Fly (repainted Dragonfly) with Recondo
  • Tiger Sting (repainted/captured Cobra Stinger)
  • Tiger Paw (repainted/captured Cobra Ferret)
  • Tiger Fish (repainted Devilfish)

Other vehicles in the lineup include the Tiger Rat (repainted/captured Cobra Rattler) with pilot Skystriker, Tiger Shark (repainted/captured Cobra Moccasin) and Tiger Cat (repainted Snow Cat) with Frostbite.

Another figure in the lineup that stands out is the Chinese Tiger Force Flint, which is actually Lt. Falcon!

Then, of course, there’s the Tiger Force 5 Pack of figures, which featured Brawler in both black hair and red hair, causing may to refer to the figure as another Outback.

Speaking of which, we haven’t even begin to talk about UK Tiger Force or Brazil Tiger Force, but that will be a deep dive for another day, as the intent of this piece was just to geek out on the commercial and here we are, half a page later, with me going on about how awesome Tiger Force is! 🙂

What are your thoughts on Tiger Force? Love’em or leave’em?

Tiger Force was a pretty cool gimmick at the time for the G.I. Joe brand. 🙂

Agreed! I know many aren’t fond of repaints, or the “money grab” that Tiger Force essentially was/is…but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I absolutely love the subgroup and everything/everyone in it! 😀
