When Fresh Monkey Fiction launched their Eagle Force Returns Kickstarter Campaign way back in 2016, they offered playsets and vehicles alongside their figure offerings. The extras were produced by D&J Toys, namely Eagle Force Eagle Island, Communication Stations and Gliders.
I reviewed the item for everyone’s viewing enjoyment and have split them out by item type. Check it out –
Eagle Force vs. R.I.O.T. Communication Station
Radio for back up with the Eagle Force vs R.I.O.T. Communication Station. Each limited edition Communication Station comes with a sticker sheet and is made to order from D&J Toys (figures shown not included).

Eagle Force vs. R.I.O.T. Glider
Danger from above as R.I.O.T. battles Eagle Force for control of the skies. Each limited edition glider is sold separately and made to order from D&J Toys. These are actually plastic display items and NOT FLYING VERSIONS (figures shown not included).

Eagle Force Eagle Island Playset
Plan your attack against the evil forces of R.I.O.T. from the Eagle Force headquarters on Eagle Island. Each limited edition playset will be built to order from D&J Toys and stands over 17″ tall. It includes a interior backdrop, flags (2) computer console, gunner station(exclusive to Kickstarter), crates (3), modern sticker sheet and vintage sticker sheet(exclusive to Kickstarter).

There you have it, folks. What are your thoughts?
For me, I was beyond excited for the playset and extras. I had the original Eagle Island as a kid and was extremely eager to add this reincarnation to my collection.
As you can see, I didn’t have much to say about this piece when it was received. Needless to say, I was beyond frustrated with the process.
First and foremost, it seemed to take an unfortunate amount of time to receive the playset, with a barrage of issues encountered by/delays presented from D&J Toys. My heart still goes out to Fresh Monkey Fiction for the effort they put towards making sure that D&J did right by all the folks that were waiting for product.
The items weren’t packed as well as they could/should have been resulting in items arriving broken. Upon further inspection, there were items that were laminated, but the laminate was either creased, had bubbles…or had hair trapped underneath (yikes). The entire product seemed unfinished and amateurish (namely the gliders).
I believe that my love for the line had blinded me to the overall presentation, but upon reflection, here are some thoughts:
- Radar/Communication Stations – Although these are cool, the finished product does not resemble the design presented in the initial pictures. Both of my examples were uneven/lopsided and weren’t sanded after printing.
- Gliders – Although “fun”, the Gliders look and feel very amateurish. They’re thick and almost appear as though they were cut straight from a sheet of styrene.
- Eagle Island Playset – To start, figures couldn’t even stand on the steps of the Island, so functionality was limited. My flags came with hair stuck underneath the laminate, with air bubbles throughout. The mat that goes underneath the playset arrived folded and damaged, as it wasn’t placed in a tube, but folded instead, causing the laminate to come up. Ooof. As with the communication stations, the piece wasn’t sanded after printing, so there are/were a lot of rough edges.
- Custom Sticker Sheets / Papercraft Crates – Thankfully, no issues to report here!
Now, you won’t believe me when I say this…but all of the griping above shouldn’t deter you from adding it to your collection if you have the chance. It is far from perfect, but it’s all we have (at least for now). The overall set displays well, albeit a “bit janky”.
For those of you that got in on any of the extras, how are you enjoying them?
