Forgotten Figures Presents Rarities – 1995 Sea Wolf

For this edition of #whalewednesday, we’re revisiting a piece by Forgotten Figures that showcases the oh-so-awesome 1995 Battle Rangers Sea Wolf, an unproduced WHALE that still manages to captative every time it makes the rounds! Here’s the scoop –

The Sea Wolf, based entirely on the G.I.Joe WHALE Hovercraft,  was planned to be an arctic themed release that utilized either a white or grey base for the whale instead of the classic olive green. It would appear that Arctic Combat was a big theme of 1995, as there seems to be quite a bit of art reflecting this environment.

There are 4 characters shown the artwork.  The two in the cockpit are the 1994 Shipwreck figure (a likely choice and a figure that would almost certainly have been re-released in 1995 since he was new in 1994) and the 1993 Duke figure.  Duke, though, is in his desert cammo, 1993 release colors.  It seems unlikely that Duke would have seen a straight re-release in 1995.  It’s been long rumored that the 1993 Duke was going to be released in 1995 in green and black cammo.  So, this picture might be a placeholder.  Or, it might not.  We don’t really know.  The gunner stations are manned by the planned 1995 Battle Corps Rangers Footloose character.  This mold would have been repainted into Shipwreck, too.  But, the ’94 Shipwreck’s appearance in the cockpit really cements this gunner as Footloose.

We’ve only just begun to scrape the surface on the discussion of this vehicle, so make sure to check out Forgotten Figures full write-up here: Rarities – 1995 Sea Wolf (Unproduced Whale)

Is the Sea Wolf a vehicle that you would’ve added to your collection? I know I would have!

Not much use talking about things that would have happened some 30 years ago, but never did. But I personally would have preferred a grey color scheme, as I’ve come to hate the white colors from vintage GI Joe figures and vehicles as they have a tendency to yellow over the years, no matter what you do (especially if you’re a loose collector like me).
