Up for preorder on BigBadToyStore right now, Doctor Caligari joins Operation: Monster Force!

BigBadWorkshop and Fresh Money Fiction present Operation: Monster Force!
Operation: Monster Force Doctor Caligari 1/12 Scale Figure
When we observed a soldier whose head was just a brain in a jar, it seemed like yet another random horror among the Forgotten King’s army. But it was Mr. Legacy who somehow recognized the identity of the brain and identified him as Doctor Caligari. It would seem that Caligari was a rival of Mr. Legacy in the last century, the two engaging in a long war of wits and arcane maneuvers.
When he still had a body, Dr. Caligari was a genius in the study of dreams and somnambulistic suggestion. He was hired by the rich and powerful to help them sleep, turning them into his sleep-walking puppets once they drifted off. Several strange decrees from rulers and unexpected wars were attributed to Doctor Caligari before he disappeared.
How he became just a brain in a jar is a mystery. More of a mystery is how he’s able to survive and power a body in such a state. What we do know however, is that he commands a vast army of Sleepwalker soldiers and now operates at the behest of the Forgotten King.

As noted earlier when The Eraser went up for preorder, I think that the Operation: Monster Force line looks fantastic and is yet another line that is making me feel very hypocritical, as I swear by the Lord’s scale (1:18), but most definitely can’t pass this up!
What about you? What’s your take on Monster Force? You can see other entries in the wave 1 & wave 2 lineup here: Operation: Monster Force

I’ve to admit these have caught my attention. I pre-ordered a couple from the first wave (unfortunately, no EU availability so far, I had to go through BBTS). Lately I’ve lost more and more interest in the 3.75/4 inch scale (the fact Hasbro almost doesn’t release anything anymore doesn’t help of course) and as such have switched more and more to 6 inch . Aside from the classics such as Marvel Legends, Classified, Indiana Jones, Valaverse etc… (and yeah, McFarlane as well, even though I hate his 7 inch choice), I also like to look at alternatives from smaller players (Jada Toys for example sure has a winner with their very affordable, great looking Street Fighter figs). As such these caught my attention. They look very promising!

My friend, these are BBTS exclusive, so unfortunately, you may have to go through them unless they link up with an EU retailer to bring these to you at an affordable rate.

I Know. That’s why I pre-ordered a couple of them. BBTS certainly isn’t the worst. Their international shipping is very affordable (Bobby Vala, please take note!) and their pile of loot feature is very helpful. But you still end up paying VAT and customs fees of course. I wish they would take part in the IOSS system and charge EU VAT in advance (the way Amazon does for example), which would save me customs fees. They do it for the UK after all, which is basically the same system, as the UK helped setup IOSS before they left with their Brexit. Maybe in the future…

Thanks so much for the education, my friend, this is beyond interesting.
Tell me, does Amazon ever get the calculation wrong and then charge the difference? Do they just swallow it? Does that even happen?

You can say a lot about Amazon, but their system works incredibly well. The customs and VAT calculation is usually 100% correct. It even handles correctly amounts above 150 euro where import fees (aside from VAT) also need to be taken into account. So far, I’ve never had any mistakes happen. I never had to pay additional costs upon reception. You have to pay attention that the goods are shipped by Amazon though. They can be marketplace items, sold by third party sellers, but they have to be handled and shipped by Amazon. You can even combine items from Amazon and marketplace sellers in the same order. In some rare cases, they even reimbursed me like a couple of cents. The big advantages for me are no delays for customs handling by the local postal service and no additional administrative fees (these can easily run up to 25 bucks and even a lot more once you’re over 150 euro). This basically allows me to buy from any Amazon portal I want, whether it’s a EU (France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany…) one or from the UK, US or Japan. 🙂
Amazon, being the mega-corporation they are already had this in place before, but the IOSS system is basically open to any internet store that wants to export to the EU. The problem is that the administration is rather heavy from what I heard (at least to get started) and most US stores don’t seem to have enough EU customers to bother and invest some time and effort in it (or they simply don’t care that you have to pay extra fees).

What’s somewhat weird as I mentioned before, is that the UK (post-Brexit) has an almost identical system and BBTS bothered implementing that one, but not the EU version of it. Considering the UK population is 68 million compared to the EU’s almost 450 million, that’s a weird choice, unless BBTS knows they have a lot more customers in the UK.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to break it down. I wonder if you’re right and BBTS did an analysis of location and determined their structure in that way?
