I’m saddened to share the news that Mr. Russ Heath has passed away at the age of 91.
Mr. Heath was widely known for his legendary work as a comic book artist, where over his illustrious career he received the Inkpot award, the National Cartoonists Society’s Milton Caniff Award, the Comic Art Professional Society Sergio Award and was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
Mr. Heath’s grandson, Mr. Lee Kosa, shared the following statement on Twitter:
“My grandfather and legendary comic artist Russ Heath passed away last night. His mastery of the craft of illustration encouraged me to pursue the arts and it is a joy to see my son now filling his own sketchbooks,” he wrote “Thank you for passing along the joys of drawing and storytelling.”
I’ve collected a sampling of images via Google so that we can enjoy a bit of Mr. Heath’s G.I.Joe work as we bid him Godspeed & Eternal Peace.
Rest well, Mr. Heath and thank you for all that you’ve done to help shape our imaginations.
My deepest condolences go to Mr. Heath’s family, friends and fans.
