Over the course of the year, I’ve been sharing word on the G.I.Joe Stop-Motion Film Festival, an annual event that showcases the best homemade GI Joe movies from around the world.
Many thanks go to my friend Brent Resner for pointing me towards an article from Westword that shares a bit of bummer news – Hasbro recently sent a C&D (Cease and Desist) letter to Mr. Gio Toninelo, the video producer that runs the festival. The letter advised that all use of the G.I.Joe brand, markings and other Hasbro intellectual property cease being used. It’s odd, as Mr. Toninelo has been in touch with Hasbro and the festival didn’t pose a concern in the past. As such, the festival has been renamed to The Action Figure Film Festival!

Mr. Toninelo is a bit relieved, as now The Action Figure Film Festival can and will include so much more than just G.I.Joe – Marvel, D.C., Transformers and more will now share screen time!
I’m excited to see what other types of entries are now received. Maybe we’ll finally get a G.I.Joe vs Transformers crossover! I’ll undoubtedly bring you more details as they’re received.
